Liquidation Companies: Stock Turnover and Availability
You may have been looking for a new liquidation supplier, or maybe you have been working with one, and are looking to make repeat orders. You may be looking through the inventories they are currently selling, and finding that they do not have the stock you have bought previously, or else they do not seem to carry the brands or products that you have been looking for.
Building a niche is crucial for growing your business, but this means you need streams of similar products. But does the presence of empty category listings or search results coming up empty mean that these liquidators don’t have access to these products, or no longer sell them? Let’s take a closer look at how this system works.
Liquidation Companies and Retailers
Liquidation companies, just like the retailers who supply them, receive a large amount of stock to sell. Both types of business need to make profits on the products they have while keeping a good turnover rate.
As a large retailer, you need liquidation partners that have a proven capability to handle large amounts of throughput. So auctions, and Buy-It-Now listings on the liquidation websites are run with the aim of getting quick sales. The large retailers that liquidators such as Direct Liquidation provide our service to need to be assured we can always take new products and are successfully clearing them. We won’t hold onto stock for long – because we need space for more! This is one of the reasons we can offer such low-priced merchandise.
However, this also means that listings you may be interested in won’t hang around for long. In addition, there will also be periods of time where we don’t have stock of the type you may be looking for. Due to such a large turnover rate, you will need to check out the categories of liquidated products you are interested in regularly. New lots are listed every day.
Seasonal Inventory
A fair amount of liquidated stock is actually seasonal inventory that retailers have to remove from shelves at the end of the relevant season, for example, removing BBQs, outdoor grills, and summer dresses in the fall, and winter coats, portable heaters and snow removal equipment in spring. These types of products may fill liquidation inventories at these times of the year, but disappear quickly, not to be seen in great quantities again until the following year.
Seasonal products, therefore, are likely not to be regularly listed in the same way as year-round items, such as electronics, homewares or tools will be. Instead they will appear infrequently, possibly in large volumes.
Seasonal products are a good choice for resellers if you have the capacity to store items for up to 9 months – when they will again be in top demand, fetching higher resale prices. However, you will not be able to acquire them all year round, leaving you to fill your stores when they do appear.
Liquidated Merchandise Categories
We now have more than 100 categories, allowing for more specific searches. Make sure you check similar categories, as you may find more of the products you are looking for.
For example, if you want to sell Apple iPhones, you may check the Apple brand page, but there is also a category for smartphones, which may sell mixed pallets of smartphones from different brands, including Apple, in lots that you may be interested in.
Maybe you are interested in selling home improvement power tools, but perhaps you don’t want to exclude automotive tools. Checking categories, but also searching all categories for certain keywords, such as ‘tools’ may therefore give different results. It always pays off to spend a bit more time looking around if you don’t immediately see the lot you are looking for, as an even better offer may be waiting elsewhere.
If you are looking for specific products, one way of making sure that a supplier has received products of the type you are looking for is to check their category and brand pages. If they have product categories for the type of stock you are looking for, and there is nothing currently listed under that category, it’s worth coming back. This means these types of products are sold through this supplier, and the next listing in this category may just be listed in the coming days. We are currently listing around 500,000 new units monthly, so plenty of different types of stock are making their way onto our website daily.
